Randy Miller is a nearly decade-old drag persona, initially created to explore masculinity within my own queer identity. Starting from occasional appearances at social events in California, the character grew into a fully-formed performance personality through which I write original music around the topics of economic alienation, toxic masculinity, loneliness, queer spaces and our influence on the environment, especially within the context of American over-consumption. Writing through Randy’s world view is an act of speculative story telling, allowing for the space to challenge existing patriarchal world views and transform them into alternate futures.
Randy's forthcoming project, 'Randy Miller and the Earthly Crisis!', is a feature-length, post-apocalyptic rock opera which takes place 100 years in the future. One cataclysmic day, some time in the future, large sink holes simultaneously open up across the globe, completely devastating all human resources and infrastructure. Randy, embrined in whiskey, narrowly escapes the ruin by passing out in one of the sink holes; his pickled body preserving him underground for 100 years. When he wakes up in the future, he must face his past demons and survive the harsh climate while he searches for a way back home.
