Randy Miller is a decade-old drag persona, initially created to explore my own masculinity as a queer woman. Randy, a race car loving, beer drinking romantic, would occasionally make appearances at social events in California and over the years, transformed into a rock star, writing original music as a means to address issues of gender performance, masculinity, loneliness, low income, queer spaces and our influence on the environment, especially within an American context.
I wanted to actively create content that told stories through Randy’s world view, to challenge it and allow it to grow into something different.
“Lonewolf” playfully pokes at the idea of the solitary man, alone against the world. From Lonewolf, the persona grew to create a feature length album (Randy Miller and the Earthly Crisis!), set in a post-apocalyptic landscape 100 years in our future. Randy slowly becomes more in touch with his deepest emotions on his journey to find a way home.
