Otherscapes is a live Audio-Visual collaboration between myself and Hagai Izenberg. Projected images of various environments and live video mix with fresh raw sound materials including field recordings of our everyday routines, samples and loops from tv & radio, news editions and advertisements, to create new sonic and visual landscapes which exist for a few fleeting moments within the live performance.
Throughout the performance, a process of the external moving inwards and the internal made manifest occurs, as analog light projections move from the physical to the virtual; and sound sources move from vinyl to photoresistors to digital remixing.
The piece, while with an overarching structure, is largely improvised by the performers. Each new iteration adds something new; changing context within the places it is performed, and through the juxtaposition of new gathered materials from the surrounding environment with those in our existing AV library. With each performance, a reference to the previous performance is revealed.
What new meanings arise from the image of a river in Wisconsin being superimposed with that of a Mediterranean cityscape? These latent landscapes offer questions of temporality and placeness within the constant process of becoming.
