'Environmental Dialogue' Concert in Haifa

For our final event of the season, Ptilia is performing in and hosting a group concert of selected pieces from Pauline Oliveros’ ‘Sonic Meditations’. Oliveros’ work has been extremely influential to us over the past year, as we find an increasingly greater need to and listen much more deeply to one another and our environment.
The Sonic Meditations are text-based scores which rely on presence within our surroundings in which, as Oliveros had said “music is a welcome by-product”. Duo Alto Video Premieres at CEME Festival

Three of five micro AV composition pieces will be premiered at CEME Festival in Tel Aviv. I filmed and edited each of the pieces, working closely with Duo Alto. The premiere is a part of a week-long festival in Tel Aviv.

In 2021, I filmed and edited a video-sound piece by composer/performer Maayan Tsadka for an online screening through Issue Project Room in New York. This coming October, the project will be screened along with other videos from the With Womens Work series ( a project which "commission[ed] artists to interpret and respond to scores included in Womens Work, a magazine first edited and self-published in 1975 by Alison Knowles and Annea Lockwood. ")

Otherscapes is a live Audio-Visual collaboration between Dani Williamson and Hagai Izenberg. Light itself is a powerful tool, which when combined with sound, can transform and create new spaces. Projected images of various environments and live video mix with fresh raw sound materials including field recordings of our everyday routine, samples and loops from tv & radio, news editions and advertisements, to create new sonic and visual landscapes.

Queer Economies; Enacting Networks of Reciprocity, an interactive worldbuilding workshop uses the encounters at a convenience store as the starting point to explore a series of performative and text-based exercises that challenge systems of value, tokenization, and question what a “queer economy” would look like. Queer Futures Lab invites you to this day-long popup workshop of character development and songwriting for your drag persona with Randy Miller and Invertebrat.
Through a series of exercises in storytelling, improvisation, and music basics, we attempt to collectively write and perform an album from the perspective of our drag persona in a single day. No prior experience needed. The day will start off with a presentation of everyone’s existing personas - so we encourage everyone to bring costumes! We then move into some exercises for further character development that specifically place your character in a cataclysmic event (either before, during, or after the apocalypse). From this situated perspective, we will expand into the bulk of the workshop: songwriting for our drag personas AS our drag personas. The day will finish with an open stage / drag show for both existing and fresh off the press musical numbers. Queer Futures Writing Lab: Telematic Writing Event

In this event we explore the tensions between the version and physical as we attempt to write in ‘transitu’ through a communal walk around our respective localities. We hack the familiar zoom interface to become a compositional interface, improvising a real-time audio and visual collage from the spaces we move through, guiding a fictional world to emerge from these overlapping, glitchy and leaky digital streams. We reach for an experience of writing which is embodied and immersive, living in the relational space between us and the environments we inhabit. Our speculative fictions emerge through a collective process of punctuating, perforating and plotting unexpected intimacies between disparate worlds.

Ships That Pass in the Night

“Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing,
Only a signal shown and a distant voice in the darkness; So on the ocean of life we pass and speak one another, Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence.” ‘Ships That Pass in the Night’, taken from the 1863 Henry Wordsworth Longfellow poem, is a durational event in which Austrian composer and organist Klaus Lang will perform for a full 24 hours. Over the course of the performance - from 6am to 6am - Klaus will play harmonium repertoires spanning from early music, to contemporary, experimental, and improvised pieces with additional performer interventions. Guest artists will join for 15-30 minute improvised duets, scattered within the 24 hour timeframe. Through this series of fleeting encounters, the consistent voice of the harmonium will lead us through the liminal space before the sunrise. Join us for this event in Meso Gallery, Sirkin 3 Haifa, for 24 minutes or 24 hours; bring a pillow and stay the whole night. *the event welcomes artists to join Klaus in his performance. Disappearing Act

In February, I'll join Ilan Barkani and Maya Penninton with live light reflections and video projections in their vocal and electronics performance "Disappearing Act".
על הקשר בין שירה (singing) לבין זהות, ברנדון לבל כותב כי "שירה מובילה אותנו אל הבמה," וכי "הבמה מהווה מרחב למחקר של 'זהות מלוכלכת' - העמדה, הגמשה והטייה של מופעי העצמי באמצעות הדמיון." בניסיון הפוך למה שמתאר לבל, העבודה הבימתית מופע היאלמות חוקרת את ההתאבכות בין קול אנושי לפידבק אקוסטי, במטרה לטשטש את העצמי עד לכדי היעלמותו. שיחה על זיכרון ילדות של נפילה למזרקה מעוררת את האוויר, את החומר השקוף הממלא את החלל, עד לכדי יצירת פידבק. הקול המדבר והשר שוקע וצף לחילופין בתוך ההדהוד המציף את החלל. הפידבק הופך את האוויר ליישות צלילית פראית, וממיס את הגבולות בינו לבין יתר הקולות והצלילים.

Haifa Hamama: Two New Works

For the past few months, I have been meeting as a participant of two different community-oriented groups within the "greenhouse" project of the Haifa Museum. In one group, we centered around a practice of controlled tremors/trauma responses in the body; in the other, on memories around queerness and identity growing up in our respective hometowns. The groups culminated in several creative projects.

Queer Futures is an interdisciplinary community gathering around a shared interest in queer feminist science fiction and experimental writing practises. Together we critically explore near and far speculative possibilities of queerness, technology, bodies, gender, ecology and community.
We are a drop-in community of online and offline interactions, meeting monthly in our virtual writing lab were we take turns sharing aspects of our writing process with each other. Our sessions are fluid in structure and adapt to the mood of those present, usually flowing between discussion, collective writing, storytelling and experience sharing. You can read more about our upcoming sessions here. We took the winter to reshape and evolve into a fully formed, updated iteration of the Writing Room, which I started with my collaborator, Miche O'Higgins, in March 2022. We're excited to launch our new website and instagram page for the occasion and look forward to a year's worth of montlhy meetings. |
